Soei Sensei began his tea studies in Showa 60 in Matsumoto to balance his training in Budo, his original reason for coming to Japan, but as time went on tea came to take over as the main focus of his studies. In 1993 he was granted permission and received a scholarship from the previous Oiemoto, Dr. Sen Genshitsu to study at the Urasenke Gakuen Chado Senmon Gakko. While there he attended innumerable tea related events and functions.

Since graduating Soei Sensei has been involved in hundreds of tea gatherings, conferences, demonstrations, lectures and galleries. He is often featured in newspaper and magazine articles and also makes frequent TV appearances. He presently teaches in Kyoto at a shrine on the northeast corner of the Imperial Palace. (see classes)

In addition to tea he is also a highly ranked practitioner of several Japanese Budo.
